The festival is in its second year. The first event attracted over 1,500 spectators who had a great time watching, listening to and dancing the weekend away to many a famous band from Australia and New Zealand.
This time around we are expecting up at around the 2,000 spectator mark. Some even bigger named bands are coming this time.
Easter Weekend 2013: 29th March to 1st April
Their will be plenty of food stands, drink stands and other activities on offer throughout the weekend.
We want to have a lot more families come along to this one so we have made some slight changes to allow for this.
The car parking and camping arrangements have changed for this festival. We have access to our neighbouring family farm for car parking and tent sites. This will allow for a lot more space on the 15 acre venue at RiverRidge Retreat for other ‘marques and activities’ stands.
The RiverRidge Retreat accommodation units can sleep up to 50 guests. These units will be used by the bands, security staff and other personnel.
The function centre, with its new full commercial kitchen, will be used to cook all food for the various stands. It is also a good place for the staff to relax when they need a break.
We have recently pulled down some older sheds to pave the way for more room. This has also allowed for the ‘main stage’ to be positioned differently to the last festival. This way all the spectators, who are not busy dancing, can have a ‘birds eye’ view while sitting on the grassy banks.
The local community is looking forward to having all music lovers in the Catlins area next Easter. If anyone wants to get away from it all for a couple of hours, they can take a drive into Owaka which is just 10 minutes away. Full facilities are in Owaka including a supermarket, two cafes and two restaurants, and of course a pub.
Others may want to go and explore some of the sites the Catlins have to offer. Just a 5 to 15 minute drive and you are at waterfalls, the rugged Catlins coast line, sandy white beaches and sea lion viewing.
This is going to be the festival that provides RiverRidge Retreat with its new ‘Festivals’ bench mark – its going to be a cracker!
