Pre-Season Retreat with the Otago Rugby Football Team
We have just had the pleasure of having the Otago Team here for a pre-season Retreat, with the main focus for the guys being team bonding in preparation for their upcoming rugby season.
The boys and management arrived on Wednesday evening to three BBQs cooking their dinner. On the menu was home caught wild venison, and wild pork. Some recruits didn't know what to make of this 'South Kiwi' tucker - but ended up loving it!
A relaxing evening followed together in the Function Centre, playing cards with lots of laughs. All the boys went to bed early.
After a cooked breakfast starting at 7am, we got into some Clay Target Shooting - it was unbeliveable, over 750 shotgun rounds echoed up the valley within an hour. The boys and coaches had heaps of fun doing this, especially as they were in teams of 6 competing against the other teams. It was awesome seeing the team having so much fun blowing up targets!
After lunch the team went into Owaka for a training run at the rugby grounds. A few locals went down to watch.
That evening, players were split into pairs and went out and had team with the farming family locals - pretty sure most were spoiled with huge roast and deserts.
The next morning was individual coach - player meetings.
A pre-match meal followed in prep for the game against Southland at Balclutha grounds.
A brilliant game result - the boys beat Southland 32-31
Looking forward to the next Sports Retreat here!
